Betty Khronic is an edible company that has been in establishment since January 2016. What originally began as a way of providing patients with worry-free / effective vegan edible options. It has quickly grown to accommodate a multitude of collectives through California.
We spoke with Katina Morales (aka: Betty Khronic.) and Mike Garcia about their product:
What was the inspiration behind it’s development?
“Both of us came from health and food backgrounds. A former military leader, Mike served 12 years in the U.S. Army and became a certified chef during his time in service. His passion for plant based nutrition inspired him to launch a raw vegan energy bar company while attending graduate school at USC’s Marshall School of Business. Mike has been vegan since 2011.
Katina Morales (Betty Khronic), a distance runner since college, started her love for making marijuana infused foods in her Downtown Los Angeles home kitchen, while training for the 2015 Boston Marathon. After sharing her healthy edibles with her network of athletes / active professionals, and hearing such positive feedback; she knew she wanted to create edible foods for the high performance athlete.
Together we designed a 100% organic, plant based energy bar that could be consumed by active individuals, consumers looking for a plant based edible, or patients who want a healthier alternative for edibles. We hope to help eliminate the negative stigma around cannabis consumption and provide a wholesome product for a health conscience market.”
The Betty Khronic energy bar begins with quality lab tested sativa stains which are then extracted into a 100% solvent-free cannabis extract. (The strains themselves are chosen specifically for their uplifting effects.) From there, it is infused into a mix of 100% raw, organic, vegan, gluten free, paleo, gmo free, and low glycemic ingredients such as raw chia seed, cocoa, almonds, and dates. Each package contains 80mg of THC (per pack of two bars.), 7 grams of plant based protein, and no added sugars. Additionally, all ingredients used are locally sourced from Southern California from farm to final product. Aside from the original, new flavors and CBD versions will soon become available.
In June 2016, Betty Khronic and Cannabliss yoga presented an event titled Puff n’ Pose. It was a great success with the studio filling at max capacity and slots filling up in a matter of hours.
“We wanted to create an event that would highlight fitness and cannabis. We meet so many active individuals who are living healthy lifestyles and ‘coming out of the cannabis closet’. Creating a platform that spotlights the use of cannabis as a holistic addition to a healthy / balanced lifestyle is something we strive for. We will have more fitness / cannabis events in the future to come.”
