Once again we have cannabis linked to a sporting event. Today, May 3rd, the Kentucky Derby, an historic sports event, is linked to cannabis, but it isn’t just a magical coincidence this time like Easter or the Super Bowl.
Every year on the 1st Saturday in May, people gather worldwide to celebrate Cannabis Hemp. The Global Marijuana March (GMM) is an annual rally held at different locations across the planet. The march refers to cannabis-related events that occur on the first Saturday in May, and includes public marches, meetings, rallies, raves, concerts, festivals and information tables.
The Global Marijuana March also goes by the name of the Million Marijuana March (MMM). It began in 1999. Hundreds of thousands of people have participated in over 829 different cities in 72 countries worldwide since 1999. There are local names for the event too, such as: World Cannabis Day, Cannabis Liberation Day, Global Space Odyssey, Ganja Day, J Day, Million Blunts March, etc..
The Global Marijuana March is a celebration embracing cannabis culture as a personal lifestyle choice. Participants unite to discuss, promote, entertain and educate both consumers and non-consumers alike. Politicians are invited but most don’t show. An even higher percentage of no-shows are the folks who want to regulate pot.
In Los Angeles, the GMM starting point is Crenshaw & Coloseum at noon, Saturday, May 3, 2014. From there we will march until we arrive at Leimert Park. As of 2011, the Moorish science temple of America has been doing the Los Angeles Million Marijuana March for 13 years at Leimert Park in Los Angeles, California. Leimert Park is a famed free speech arena, which has also held Black Panther rallies and more since its inception.
You are welcome to march along with the people or deck your automobile out in a Cannabis Hemp theme & join us in that way. This is a community event, children & dogs are encouraged to attend. Once we get to the park, we gather there & continue to celebrate this most wonderful plant. Hemp Hemp Hooray! – 420Nurse Lilliflower – LA story source
